Two main lines in the field are creating new varieties of plants by radiation mutation and use tracer techniques for the study on nutritional physiology of plants to optimize process of cultivation. Plants studied include corn, beans, rice, flowers and mushroom. Specially, the VAEC in collaboration with Mekong - Delta Rice Institute and Institute for Agricultural Science of the Southern Vietnam succeeded in creation of new rice varieties with short growth time high yield good qualify for export. In the coming time, the VAEC continues giving priority to conducting research to create high yield, good quality rice varieties. The insect sterilization technique has been applied to the eradication of plutella xylostalla.
