Being aware of the role of nuclear energy for the country’s energy security and sustainable development, Vietnam has been carrying out preparatory study projects for introduction of nuclear power. Among of these projects, Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission, VAEC, is responsible for the national project: “Development of R&D capability for the nuclear power development program” which has been implemented for the period of 2002-2004. In the project, studies are being carried out in VAEC’s establishments in four sub-projects corresponding to four areas having important role for the future nuclear power program in Vietnam: (a) nuclear reactor and nuclear safety, (b) building a new research reactor in Vietnam, (c) dispersion of gases released from nuclear power plant and (d) radioactive waste disposal. After more than one year of implement, the project has obtained significant results. |
